The Power of Words

Peace to the tribe, welcome to the Holistic Hallway.

"If we understood the power of our thoughts, we would guard them more closely. If we understood the awesome power of our words, we would prefer silence to almost anything negative. In our thoughts and words, we create our own weaknesses and our own strengths. Our limitations and joys begin in our hearts. We can always replace negative with positive."

Betty Eadie

Etymology:

noun
The study of the origin of words and the way in which their meanings have changed throughout history.
"The study of historical linguistic change, especially as manifested in individual words."

Matutolypea

noun

"The state of being in a bad mood and easily annoyed, especially in the morning"

It’s often been said that the English language is composed of spells and curses. If you don’t believe this to be true, I’d like you to make a quick evaluation with me. Do you often talk down on yourself? Do you talk yourself out of doing things more than you talk yourself into doing things? Do you tell yourself it’s hard to live the life you want? If you answered “YES” then you are holding yourself back from taking actions to achieve the things you want. Essentially you are cursing yourself. Saying words like “I can’t, shouldn’t, I’m afraid to, etc” are ways you are cursing yourself. Negative thoughts are just as impactful as negative words. A mind is a powerful tool. If you can think it, you can do it. It’s time we gain our power back and use our words to our best advantage. Words and thoughts can manifest the life you do or do not want. I have been a victim of a lack of better words and negative self-talk. In the words of my cousin Zach, "No Loser Talk". Let me share how I’ve started to break that cycle.

7 Ways to Gain Your Word Power Back

  • Choose your words wisely

As a society, we have become conditioned to talk about our misfortunes and problems. We take our interpretations of events, people, and ourselves and communicate them to the world, bringing them into existence. This is how you manifest the things you want and do not want. The law of attraction doesn’t know if you want a positive effect or a negative one.

  • I am what I am

Affirm who you are, your dreams, your hopes, and your successes with the two of the most powerful words that a person can ever utter… “I am”. I taught you how to meditate in my blog What is meditation and how exactly do I meditate? Now let’s add some positive affirmations to your meditation sessions and your daily routine. A few affirmations I say daily are:

I am Healthy

I am Happy

I am Wealthy

I am The Master of My Faith

I am The Master of My Destiny

I am Love

I am a King

I am a Motivator

I am an Inspirator

  • Speak from the heart

When we complain about our situations or circumstances in life, speak anxiously or use hateful words, we usually do so from a place of fear. So, the first step we need to take in order to conquer this is to practice better self-awareness over the words we’re using.

Next time you open your mouth to complain or put yourself or others down, ask yourself:

  1. Is this helping or hurting me?
  2. Is this worth me putting my energy into?
  3. What kind of karma will return to me?

It’s important to note there is “Good Karma” and “Bad Karma”. Your words are no different.

  • No Name-Calling or Self-Criticism

Everyone is doing the best they can at any moment in time with the consciousness they have to work with, including you. Be kind and offer yourself the same empathy and compassion you’d extend to anyone else. You need to be your own hypeman/hype woman, not your own worst enemy.

  • Resist Gossiping and Speaking Ill of Others.

It’s impossible for your words to resonate in anyone else’s body but your own. We all like a nice laugh and joking moments with family and friends. However, the high level of gossiping and ill will towards people isn’t beneficial to you.

  • Boost the Positive Energy of Words.

Instead of saying something like you had a good time at a concert, ramp up the positive energy by saying great, terrific, or fantastic, instead. These feel much better and generate a bigger energetic response in the body.

  • If you have some negative individuals in your circle of friends, limit your time

Negative energy has a way of dragging everything surrounding it like a big black hole. Avoid it when you can. You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with or speak with the most. Remember this when the negative individuals are around. Change your circle of friends if need be. Your mission is to master yourself. Self-mastery doesn’t happen with being surrounded by low energy.

“Whether you think you can, or you think you can't--you're right.”

Henry Ford

Learning more about Etymology can help you learn how to speak without cursing yourself.

Let's start small instead of saying

Good morning - Grand Rising

Wake up- Rise up

Mourning

noun

the expression of deep sorrow for someone who has died, typically involving following certain conventions such as wearing black clothes.

Wake

verb

hold a vigil beside (someone who has died).

"The word 'morning' came from a combination of Old English and Middle English words. Originally called 'morn', this was the period just after sunrise." The point is to remove the power of words that we don't consciously realize are casting spells. Grand rising is positive and gives you a subconscious as well as conscious boost.
