List your “Whys”

Finding and knowing your “why” is first and foremost. Knowing why you’re doing something will make it easier to fight those thoughts we get occasionally when things start to look a bit uncertain. Putting sticky notes on your mirror is a good way to give yourself daily reminders. Sometimes you need a visual representation of what you’re doing to better yourself and your circumstances. I’ve gone through the motions of needing to go back to my “why” to regain motivation at times.

Change your mindset

Almost everything is mental or starts based on our mentality. If you’re serious about getting and staying motivated, you’ll want to make sure you start off in the right mindset. Do what you love, it’s easier to stay motivated when it involves something you love. Believe in yourself, recognize the progress you’ve made, minor or major. A few things to make note of are to be proud of yourself for starting to take this journey seriously. Switch things up and celebrate your accomplishments both big and small. Don’t be afraid to pat yourself on the back. You have to become your biggest fan.

Map out your goals

You can’t know where you’re going unless you have a plan and goals in place. Without that, you will most likely stay stagnant and that’s a situation none of us want. Be sure to break the goal down into smaller goals. Smaller milestones are easier to measure and can be accomplished swiftly. Here are a few goal setting and tracking sheets.

Get help from others

I know a few superheroes that don’t wear capes. However, everyone needs help from time to time. Don’t be too prideful to ask for help. Sometimes those who you least expect are just waiting to assist you. Don’t go asking for a handout without extending a hand to offer something in return. This can be a service for a service, service for monetary gain, or whatever you two decide upon.

Find a change of scenery

We need to get out from time to time. See new places, find things that make us smile, and appreciate them. There are a few parks I like to go to that brighten up my day. I meditate there and just take in nature. I also have a manifestation spot. This spot is the place I go to when I need to reflect and talk with myself about any and everything that’s happening in my life. Find your positive surroundings. It is also important to find positive people to surround yourself with. Your circle of friends is vital when it comes to motivation and staying on track.

Take time for yourself

Burnouts are very important to avoid. You can overwork yourself and when that happens, nothing gets done. Things start to get put off for “tomorrow” and we all know that tomorrow doesn’t always go as planned. When you mess up don’t mentally attack yourself. Remember nobody is perfect, including those role models you look up to. We all make mistakes, don’t beat yourself up. Take things one day at a time. Know your limits and be kind to yourself. Find motivational quotes you like and share them on social media, save them as your phone’s screen saver, or find physical pictures you can hang in your home.

Take care of yourself

You can’t reach those goals if your mental health, physical health, and wellbeing aren’t being taken care of properly. Make sure you’re getting enough sleep and taking breaks no matter your field of work. Remember you come first then those goals and execution of them. When you feel good you do good and accomplish more. Make sure you have a balanced diet.

Don’t compare yourself

Your only competition is the reflection you see when you look in the mirror. Just because someone does the same thing as you doesn’t mean they get the same satisfaction for doing it nor does it mean they did it better. Comparing yourself to others will only create self-doubt. You can’t be motivated and compare yourself to others and expect to stay on an incline. Negative self-talk is a rapid way of destroying your motivation and progress. Here is a book on negative self-talk about how to stop it.

Key takeaways

Know your “why” for doing what you’re doing. Everything is mental and starts within. Create your plan, set goals, break down those goals, and celebrate those accomplishments no matter the size of the milestone reached. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, nobody changes the world single-handedly. Get out of the house and see things that speak to your core. Take a break and then jump back into your work and creations. Health is wealth, take care of yourself first and foremost. Don’t compete and don’t compare, you are you and they are them.
